You know you don't need a fancy title to be a great leader...but it still feels like your hands are tied.

Public sector leaders have unique challenges when it comes to leadership. Your job is often thankless, rife with political nuance, and high-stress. My role is to help you develop the confidence, clarity, and skills to lead with purpose, despite the psychological, emotional, and strategic landmines you face every day.

About Phyllis Q. Edson

I’m Phyllis Edson—leadership coach, former councilmember, and lifelong believer in public service. I’ve worked across city departments, nonprofits, government affairs, and education. My work is rooted in values, strategy, and compassion—for both the people we serve and the people doing the serving.

I grew up in Missouri’s capital city, surrounded by the workings of government from an early age. My father was deeply involved in politics and public policy, and I was inspired by how he influenced change—not by chasing the spotlight but by getting things done behind the scenes. That spirit of quiet leadership shaped my own career.

Even during the pandemic, when everything felt uncertain, I found myself drawn back to service. That’s when I stepped into coaching. I realized that helping others lead with integrity—especially in the public sector—is the most meaningful work I could do.

Today, I’m a certified coach through the CaPP Institute, and I’ve spent the last several years supporting rising and established leaders alike. My focus is on helping people recognize their strengths, trust their vision, and amplify their influence—no matter their title. Leadership isn’t just about power. It’s about service.

“Phyllis is an insightful, dedicated and highly effective coach. She has a calm, strong presence and does a wonderful job at creating a nonjudgmental, welcoming environment.”
